Both of my boys love the water and equally loved learning how to swim from Leah. She is a patient and passionate instructor. I loved how safety was always her most important lesson. My boys took lessons the summer when they were 3. My oldest is now 10 and still remembers all the lessons Mrs. Leah taught him. He also helps his now 4 year old brother remember them as well. They both benefited tremendously from the week of swim instruction. I highly recommend Leah to all my friends with kids, because what she teaches is so important.
My 4 year old went to Mrs Leah’s last summer . She went from not letting water touch her face to jumping off the side and swimming to the other side all in one week . Mrs Leah not only taught my daughter but taught me very important water safety skills for any situation . We both left that week with lessons learned that will be used forever . Mrs Leah is amazing with the children … The pool is heated so no child was chilly at all . My daughter is still talking about about how much she LoVeD swimming lessons and it’s been one year.
Leah promised me that she would have my three year-old daughter swimming by the end of the week. I didn’t believe that she could do it, so I made a wager.
“If you can teach Claudia (screaming, crying, stubborn, and willful) to swim, then I will write a letter to the editors of the Hattiesburg American proclaiming that ‘survival swim lessons’ are important and that Leah Thaggard is a swim teacher-extraordinaire.”
At the end of the week, Claudia could jump in and swim to the side. She knew to ‘throw ( a lifesaving device), but never ever go (after a person who is drowning)’ and how to ‘push the water behind’ her to propel herself through the water.
Years later, thanks to Leah’s swim lessons my daughter and her three siblings swim like fish, and if you want to take the time, you can probably go through the archives at the Hattiesburg American and find that letter to the editor that I wrote that summer. Thanks Leah.
